Ujunwa Ugochukwu, a part-time student of the Department of English returns to school after a good Samaritan clears her 200L and 300L school fees.
Narrating her story before receiving her cheque, Ujunwa laments:
To be sincere, Sir, the main reason why I left school was because of money, it was all because I was not able to pay my bills in school (my school fees, exam fees, part-time dues, departmental dues) but most especially was my school fees.
Though I tried coming back to continue things became worse. It was too hard for me because I was training myself in school without any help from anyone or anywhere.

Sir, I wish to continue because I really want to become a graduate so I can continue with my dream of becoming a lecturer and also finally become the first graduate in my family by God’s grace.
Sir, I really want to go back to school and be a graduate. And I will work harder to become someone useful in society. Please sir, if this opportunity is given to me I will really make good use of it, I promise.
Reacting after she received the cheque for her 200L and 300L school fees, Ujunwa was full of joy and expressed gratitude to God and the Department of English which has proven to be an extraordinary department that looks out for her students. She promised to maximize her time, rededicate herself to her studies, and make everyone proud.
The HOD, Dr. Ikechukwu Asika, expressed his happiness to have made her dream of continuing her education come true through the donation he secured from the anonymous donor. He promised to do his best to ensure that she graduates from the department in a few years as long as there is still life and God.
The HOD further announced that the department is positioned to deepen the visions of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha fnipr, to build a community of love through active involvement with her students and unflinching willingness to support and lend helping hands to them in any way it’s within the reach of the Department.
He assured Ujunwa Ugochukwu of the willingness of the entire staff of the department to give her all the moral support she would need to excel and fulfill her dreams of becoming the first graduate in her family from where she could follow her dreams to any height she could dare.
Ujunwa is the second student to receive a scholarship in the department after Miss Chidera Obi who also today received a cheque for her school and hostel fees for the 2024/2025 academic session from the same anonymous donor.
Dr. Asika also informed that a foundation has also promised to pay the school fees of two more students in the department (200l and 300l) respectively and that this will be duly announced to encourage other persons who can, to come to the aid of many indigent students in the Department and the University passionate about education but continue to face a serious financial crisis that threatens to thwart their dreams of someday becoming a graduate of COOU.

A PROMISE FULFILLED: The Benjamin Oyefemi Charity Foundation clears the 2024/2025 session school fees for two students in the Department of English, COOU Igbariam Campus.
The Benjamin Oyefemi Charity Foundation has paid the 2024/2025 school fees for two students in the Department of English of COOU, Igbariam Campus. This is a fulfillment of a promise made through their CEO, Builder Benjamin Oyefemi, during the Opuluiche Festival of Arts. The two beneficiaries are:
1. Ekweoba Ukamaka Beatrice (300 L)
2. Senator Nancy (200 L)
3. The students could not hide their joy and gratitude to the University and a Department that cares so much for their own.
The HOD, Dr. Ikechukwu Asika, expressed his gratitude to the foundation and promised greater interventions. According to him,
“We are building a community of love in line with the visions of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha FNIPR, and we are not stopping here.
My dream is to build a department everyone will love; a department where not even school fees can stop a student from attaining the dreams of a higher education.
We are looking at the future for many beautiful things that will still come to the Department and the University.” He ended.
